The Solitary Oak in Mist is centered on a lone tree, a softened horizon, and a sparse atmospheric field. Its strength is restraint: one form, one mood, enough space around it to let the wall breathe.

Heather's Note

The lone tree is one of the oldest motifs in landscape, older than Romanticism, older than the tradition that gave it its name. It recurs because it does something efficient: it gives the eye an anchor and the mind a question at the same time. This one is spare enough that the question stays open. It belongs somewhere quiet, where it will almost disappear until it does not.
